Swedish appeals court cancels the historic decision in the case of file sharing

On Tuesday, the Swedish Court of Appeal overturned the lower courts' rules regarding public access to files and data, according to which one of the Internet service providers were obliged to provide information about users just five publishers.

The above-mentioned judicial verdict was the first solution, based on the so-called Swedish directive "on the enforcement of intellectual property rights." This document came into force on 1 April and gave copyright owners the opportunity to recover from Internet service providers detailed information about the users involved in sharing files, thus paving the way for trials with the "troublemakers." Five publishers have filed a lawsuit against the Internet service provider Ephone to get the IP address of the server which housed 27 audio books, the rights to which these publishers had.
